The Western Transdanubian Nursery Association was established in 1990 with the participation of 45 nurseries, in order to coordinate the production and make a professional corporation for business federation. First, our members were only from the western part of Hungary, but for now we possess more nurseries from whole Hungary; producing not only trees and shrubs but specialized on perennials as well.

Today the Western Transdanubian Nursery Association is the largest in Hungary: it counts 216 members from the total 450 nurseries, among them the largest companies of the country. Our members are producing on approx. 1.500 hectares, which is more than 70% of the total production area of Hungary. Together with the rich assortment and good quality is to mention the very good cold-tolerance of our plants.

Thanks to the continental climate of Hungary and to the temperatures between -25 and +40 degrees the plants produced in our nurseries can cope excellently with the weather conditions in the countries of Eastern Europe. The main aims of the association are the professional supporting and training of our members. In order to improve their skills and possibilities there are many programmes organized and continuously new contacts built to foreign specialists. Four time a year the professional paper of the association, the “Faiskolai Értesítő” is published, which gets to all nurserymen in the country. There are presentations hold how to solve diff erent problems and many books are published for hobby and professional gardeners. The association is a member in the Hungarian Council of Ornamental Plant Producers. 

Its largest professional program is the yearly Nursery Exhibition, which is held in Szombathely, on every second weekend in August. Among the Hungarian exhibitors there are from year to year more and more foreign exhibitors as well. There were 105 Hungarian and 16 foreign (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, France, Germany and Slovakia) nurseries participating on the XVI. Nursery Exhibition 2009, on 1.500 squaremeters. Similar to the former years there were represented nursery plants, perennials, liners, chemicals, substrates, machines and all kind of tools for nursery production. All together there were 800 professional and 300 private visitors counted least year.
